SHINE Saturday School

Duke’s Aldridge Academy is fortunate to run a Saturday School that is sponsored by the charity SHINE for targeted Year 7 students. During the first week of September all Year 7 students take a reading test and based on their reading ability, students will be invited to join the SHINE Saturday school.

This programme is aimed at the middle cohort of learners who need extra support in literacy so that they can make a more rapid progress at Secondary School.
On Saturdays, learning is fun and different from normal lessons. The aim of SHINE is not only to improve literacy levels but to increase the self confidence of the students.

The curriculum includes Literacy, Maths, Science, Sport and Catering.

During the year the students take part in 2 residential courses as well as a visit to a London attraction. All costs are paid for by SHINE.

The only requirement by parents is to ensure that if selected, your child attends regularly throughout the year.

Once the year is complete, parents/carers, students and staff come together and celebrate their success through a graduation ceremony.
