Duke’s Aldridge Academy were in the top three performing schools in England for their implementation of Accelerated Reader. The nomination recognizes student progress made and the successful administration of the reading program. For the past 3 years we have been the first secondary school in the country to be awarded Master School status and over 60% of our classes were awarded Masterclass: both awards requiring high levels of comprehension and reading stamina.
Well done to all of the competitors who took part in ‘Duke’s Got Talent 2018’. We witnessed an amazing evening of talent that included dance, spoken word poetry, original compositions, rap, musicianship and stand up comedy. The competition was tight but after much wrangling the Heads of House unanimously awarded Naphtali (Wallis House) first place for his incredible dance piece – a real crowd-pleaser. Second place went to Ubaidul (Tull House) who stunned the audience with an emotional and heartfelt rap. Third place was shared equally by Filip (King House) for his amazing stand up routine, Weronika (Adkins House) for her incredible self-penned song and Alice (Byrne House) for her excellent piece of spoken word poetry.
For the third consecutive year, School Council members assembled food hampers to present to the elderly within our community. All members of the academy were encouraged to donate non-perishable food items, shoe boxes and gift wrapping to council members. Council members have been instrumental in putting up posters, speaking directly to their year groups to promote the project and have also assisted in collecting food donations from tutor groups. Special thanks to Pearl Davis and Amina Khan, Parent Governors, for their time, support and donations.
After another successful Haringey Swimming Gala that Duke’s Aldridge Academy hosted, our year 10 team brought home the medals and came third in borough. Not to be out done, the handball team came runners up narrowly missing out on the trophy and gold medals. Well done to all students involved, a great day of sporting achievements.
