YEAR 7 HARINGEY BOROUGH CHAMPIONS

Year 7 football team who returned victorious from the Haringey Borough Football Cup last week. The team led by the tactical nous and astute acumen of Mr Tsannos and Mr Demirel went into the competition quietly confident of success but aware that they would have to overcome the Haringey sporting powerhouses of St Thomas More and Gladesmore Community School if they were to be successful.
Early on Fortismere, Highgate Wood and Park View Academy were put to the sword with NPCS running up a record amount of goals in the process. The final group game saw them pitted against the only team to have beaten them so far this season St Thomas More. A slow start saw St Thomas More take what would normally be an unassailable 3-0 lead, but through some inspirational words on the touchline and the boys’ ‘never say die’ attitude they managed to recover, scoring a dramatic late equaliser that saw them qualify for the final.

In the final, they met Gladesmore in what was expected to be a tight encounter. Buoyed from their comeback in the previous game the boys ran out comfortable winners 4-1. The whole day was a team effort, with all the players contributing to a success that NPCS has not experienced in the last decade.

Happy National Poetry Day!

Today is National Poetry Day and, this year, the theme is light. There are many types of light and we can interpret light in different ways. Light can be electricity. Light can be comforting. Light can create a mood. Light can cast beautiful shadows. Light can set scenes. Light can inspire and fill you with hope. Light can be magical.File0459

The English department have planned lots of exciting events to celebrate poetry and let poetry shine on NPCS. On Monday the Let Poetry Shine competition was launched. Yesterday, students sparkled in the dark by writing poetry in the time it took for a sparkler to burn down. Today, all English students wrote An Ode to Light at the beginning of their English lessons and we have also had a scavenger hunt based on The Tyger by William Blake. Congratulations to Brandon Reinoso 8V and Yusuf Al-Mubarak 8P who won the quiz. Tomorrow, we will have a Popping Poems event and students will have the opportunity to find a poem in a balloon!
Well done to all the students and teachers who have celebrated poetry with us this week and, remember, let poetry light up your life!
