Staying Safe Assemblies

Insight Platform, a Haringey based organisation, were at Duke’s this week delivering assemblies to all students on the subject of staying safe. Students received information on the dangers of substance abuse as well as being taught about where they could go to get help. We always value working with local community organisations at Duke’s and the team from Insight Platform are no expectation. We are looking forward to our partnership growing in future months.

Indoor Athletics

A huge well done to the year 8 athletics team and the PE department. On Thursday 16th January the PE department took 13 members of Year 8 to St Thomas More School for the annual Haringey Indoor Athletics Championships. Although they did not manage to come away with a podium finish against the other 9 schools they did show a lot of resilience, fight and competitive spirit and there were some outstanding performers.

Kimorae drove the girls team to participate and acted as assistant to Mr Green. She was also the standout performer in the girls relay.

Khyroe managed 3rd position in his 4 lap race and Clara who was the standout individual performer from the girls overall.

The team in full was: Khyroe, Javier, Guneyt, Judel, Nizae, Michael, Jordi, Kimorae, Chrisstanel, Makayla, Ava, Clara, Shamoya.

Well done to everyone involved. Next week it is the turn of our Year 7s!

Linklaters Art Fund

We had a fabulous end to the calendar year at Duke’s with our partners at Linklaters. Earlier in the year the team at Linklaters got in touch to say they would be selling off some of their artworks and would like the proceeds to go to the art department at Duke’s. We were stunned last week to be presented with a cheque for over £29,000!

This money will be used for new art initiatives in the new year and our wider Expressive Arts team are very excited to find ways in which this money can help and support our students with their artistic endeavours. Such a generous gift and a brilliant way to end the end!

The Linklaters team also laid on a festive celebration for our staff which was very warmly received. We’re looking forward to continuing our relationship at Linklaters in the new new year

Christmas Hampers

Huge thank you and well done this week to Ms Gordan Smith and her team who helped coordinate our annual Christmas Hamper delivery to a local church. The students and staff who set this up really made a difference to the lives of some in the local community at this time – a very worthwhile cause. Thanks again to Ms Gordan Smith, Ms Harrison at the team.
