IMG_4974

We released an outstanding set of results today- by far the best ever achieved at Northumberland Park.

91% of our Y11 gained 5 or more good passes (A*-C). If English & Maths is included, last year’s record of 41% was dwarfed by a new record of 51%!

In English & Maths, 60% & 62% respectively achieved A*-C grades. There were also outstanding outcomes in other subjects, notably in GCSE Art where 9 out of 24 students (38%) achieved A* grades and 100% achieved A*-C.

Individually, there were many outstanding performances. In particular Sarah Kichou with 13 A/A* grades, of which 8 were A*; Hande Emin with 13 A/A* grades of which 7 were A*; and Ronak Patel with10 A/A* grades, 7 of which were A*.

“The 10% rise in our results this year is testimony to the staff and year 11 student cohort for all their hard work, efforts and perseverance. We have achieved our best crop of A*/A grades this year. This good set of results will serve as motivation and aspiration for our new year 11 cohort.

I want to acknowledge the outstanding support students and staff received from parents. We wish all the year 11 students of 12/13, every success in their future studies.” – Monica Duncan, Headteacher

Textiles Exhibition

Sadiyo Exhibition PV 2 Sophie
On Tuesday 11th June the Technology department opened their doors to parents, governors, staff and students for the Year 11 Textiles Exhibition. It was wonderful to celebrate the achievements made by the students these past two years. There were positive comments from all that came during and after the event.
One in particular read “I was greatly impressed by the standard of work, both the quality of the individual pieces and the range of techniques used.  The students certainly have great opportunities for developing their own personal expression through textiles.  I have been to foundation exhibitions at Hornsey School of Art and some of your students work would easily fit into their exhibition.”
Thank you to Mr Liversidge and NPCS students for preparing the canapes and fruit punch, Year 9 students Suzan, Gizem and Melisa for helping set up and Mr Grant and Mr Taylor for helping, especially hanging of larger pieces! Very tricky! A general thank you to the Technology department for all your support and to all that came.

Duke of Edinburgh

DOE - 2013_060820120028

DOE - 2013_060820120021A group of 17 year 10 Duke of Edinburgh students went on their ‘Practice Camping Expedition’ to Epping Forest 7th – 8th of June. Luckily, the weather was mild and clear as the students were required to hike for six hours each day carrying all of their equipment on their backs. This trip allowed the students to practice their orienteering skills, develop their camp craft and experience a lot of firsts, like sleeping in tents away from their families and cooking their own food outdoors.

The most important lessons learned were that teams need to work together to accomplish the tasks, maps need to be referenced constantly to stay on track and nonessential items can be left at home to lighten the load.

Wish the group luck on their Assessed Expedition coming up on 21st – 22nd June. If they pass this they are on their way to earning the internationally recognized Bronze Award through the Duke of Edinburgh Program.
